Nature Park Schönbuch (Naturpark Schönbuch)
At the northern edge of Tübingen lies Schönbuch Nature Park. A multitude of hiking paths crisscross the former royal hunting area. A deer park, barbecue sites, rustic picnic and hiking shelters, or a visit to the former Cistercian monastery, Bebenhausen, are among the many rewarding destinations. On the western edge of the park, on a rocky ledge, sits Hohenentringen Castle. Formerly a castle belonging to the counts of Tübingen, today it houses a much-visited pub which makes for a great day trip.
Rich, varied and peaceful nature, castles and palaces, biking and hiking paths, sporting activities: The Swabian Alb offer all of this. Emerging millions of years ago from the Jurassic period, unusually structured and softly rolling, the Swabian Alb are a distinctive secondary mountain range stretching across Baden-Württemberg. From Tübingen, the Swabian Alb can be reached in a good half-hour and is thus ideal for day trips.
