Old University Assembly Hall (Alte Aula)
The Old University Assembly Hall was built probably in the year 1547 out of the remains of two previous buildings and was the center of the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen – founded in 1477. This used to be the main building of the university until the completion of the New Assembly Hall in the Wilhemstraße in 1845.
The building is listed as a historical monument. In the grating of the balcony one can see the emblem of the university, two crossed scepters, a symbol of the University’s independent jurisdiction and former autonomy.
