Hölderlin Tower (Hölderlin Turm)
Many famous poets and thinkers had a stop-over in Tübingen including Hesse, Uhland and Schiller. But Tübingen meant more than that for Friedrich Hölderlin. He studied here from 1788 to 1793, and returned in 1807. After his stay in hospital he moved to this tower and lived there until he died in 1843. The "Neckarfront" with Hölderlin's tower is one of the most famous and most photographed views of Tübingen. For those who would like to look behind this attractive facade, the museum offers insightful views on Hölderlin's life in Tübingen.
In three rooms the visitor is given views on Hölderlin's student life at the Collegiate, his second stay at the clinical centre and his life in Ernst Zimmer's home, in the tower. Information is also given on the impact of his work up to this day. Not only numerous personal documents and letters of Hölderlin himself, but also current pictures of Tübingen are shown. Visitors become acquainted with Hölderlin's friends, role models in literature, patrons and guests in the tower.
