City Museum (Stadtmuseum)
The Municipal Museum, located in the ancient granary of Tübingen, displays important objects of the 900 year-old history of the city. This permanent collection, shown on the second and third floor of the museum, is structured chronologically and concentrates on the most important events in the history of Tübingen from the 15th to the 20th century. The focus, however, lies on the topics of the 19th and 20th century.
Another highlight of the museum is the recently re-opened permanent exhibition "A World of Light and Shadow", dedicated to Lotte Reiniger, whose silhouettes, shadow plays and silhouette films are famous all over the world. This magnificent new show occupies a large area on the first floor.
On the ground floor, there are three or four changing exhibitions a year, dealing with various subjects concerning the history of the city, its "celebrities" and artists. Further topics are the current development of the city and the history of arts and culture in general.
The fourth floor of the building offers room enough for events of different types as well as pedagogic activities for children.
